Soil : schist (most of the French vineyards are limy : Champain, Burgundy...)

Soil :

Located between limy area of Paris and granite of Brittany, Savennières soil is mainly composed of schist, but you find in some places like the 'Hu-Boyau' spots of vulcanic rocks wich remind the activity of the soil in the primary area, in some other place you can find sand coming from erosion.

The vineyard of the Château d'Epiré is on the highest slopes of the area at the village of Epiré.

It is divided in three parcels

The Park, 4.5 hectares next to the Castle,
La croix Picot, 2.5 hectares just over the Loire, very stony
Le Hu-Boyau, over the famous 'Coulée de Serrant', 2.5 hectares
